Perfume
Whether you’re looking for a light and fresh everyday scent or a more intense perfume for the evening, the most important thing is to find a fragrance that suits you. Read our brief guide and explore our selection. You can also visit our store at Strandvejen 169 A, 2900 Hellerup, to sample the fragrances.
Eau de Toilette or Eau de Parfum?
When choosing a perfume, you’ll often come across terms like Eau de Toilette (EDT) and Eau de Parfum (EDP).
Eau de Toilette generally has a lower concentration and is therefore often perceived as lighter and more airy. This makes EDT an ideal choice for everyday wear, work, or warmer days when a more subtle scent may be preferable.
Eau de Parfum typically has a higher concentration of fragrance oils and is therefore often perceived as more intense and long-lasting. EDP can be a good choice if you want a scent with more presence, or for evenings and cooler months. Since this type of perfume is more intense, we find that it not only retains its scent longer but that you can actually make the perfume last longer, as you don’t need to use as much at a time to maintain a pleasant scent throughout the day or evening.
Perfumes for Different Seasons
Temperature and season can affect how a perfume is experienced on the skin. That’s why it can make sense to switch between different fragrance profiles throughout the year—especially since different scents complement different weather conditions and help set a mood on the skin.
Spring
Spring often calls for lighter and fresher scents. Citrus, green notes, florals, and aromatic ingredients work well as temperatures begin to rise. A fresh Eau de Toilette can be an ideal choice for the season.
Summer
In the heat, heavy and very intense scents can quickly feel overwhelming. So, opt for fresh, citrusy, green, or aquatic notes. Scents like Play Green Eau de Toilette from Comme des Garçons PLAY, for example, combine mint and lime with jasmine, vetiver, and cedarwood for a green and fresh feel.
Fall
As temperatures drop, it’s a good idea to choose fragrances with more warmth and depth. Woody notes, spices, incense, and soft textures suit the cooler weather of fall. For example, you’ll find several deeper compositions from Comme des Garçons and Byredo in our selection.
Winter
Winter is the perfect time for more intense fragrances. Wood, leather, spices, amber, and incense work particularly well in cold weather, when the scent often develops more slowly on the skin. An Eau de Parfum is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a more distinctive fragrance experience.
Fragrance Notes: How to Find the Right Perfume
A perfume consists of different fragrance notes that evolve over time. They are often described as top, middle, and base notes.
Top notes are the first notes you experience when the perfume is applied. They are often fresh and fleeting, such as citrus or aromatic notes.
Heart notes become more apparent after the first few minutes and often define the character of the perfume itself. Here, for example, floral, spicy, or green notes may be prominent.
Base notes linger longest on the skin and give the perfume depth. Wood, musk, vanilla, amber, and incense are examples of ingredients often used in the base.
It’s therefore a good idea not to judge a perfume based solely on the first spray. Give it time to develop on your skin and experience how the scent changes character.
FAQ About Perfume
How many sprays of perfume should you use?
There’s no set number, but we typically recommend one spray on the front of your neck and one on the back. You can also spray once on each wrist. That way, you’ll avoid being over-perfumed.
Where should you apply perfume?
The wrists, neck, and the area around the collarbone are classic spots to apply perfume. You can also lightly spray perfume on your clothes, but be aware that some fragrances can leave stains on delicate fabrics.
Should you rub perfume into your skin?
It’s best to let the perfume dry naturally. If you rub your wrists together, you may alter the way the scent develops.
Can you use the same perfume all year round?
Yes. There are no rules about which perfume to wear during a specific season. Seasonal classifications can serve as inspiration, but your personal taste is what matters most.
How long does perfume last?
Longevity varies from perfume to perfume and depends, among other things, on the concentration, the ingredients, and your skin. Eau de Parfum will typically last longer than Eau de Toilette, but this isn’t a hard-and-fast rule.
What is a unisex perfume?
A unisex perfume is designed without being specifically targeted at men or women. Many modern perfumes are created to be worn by anyone, and the scent should be chosen first and foremost based on personal preference.
