Origins and Design Philosophy
Berner Kühl was born out of founder Frederik Berner Kühl’s desire to challenge the established men’s apparel market with an approach that focuses more on form and materials. Drawing on his education at the Polimoda Fashion Institute in Florence and solid experience from both the Danish and international fashion scenes, the brand’s design approach is rooted in a deep respect for classic tailoring.
Inspiration, Silhouettes, and Material Quality
At the heart of Berner Kühl’s collections is the balance between clean minimalism and a functional aesthetic:
Minimalism with depth: The design language draws strong parallels to the minimalist breakthrough of the 1990s—particularly the aesthetics of Jil Sander and Helmut Lang—but is updated with a contemporary approach to fit and comfort.
Fabrics and tailoring: The collections prioritize exclusive fabrics, refined surface textures, and precise tailoring, where unnecessary details are eliminated to let the fabric and cut take center stage.
Timeless men’s wardrobe: The range spans structured outerwear, tailoring, knitwear, and shirts created with a long-term perspective in mind.
