Adidas is one of the most famous sports brands in the world. They make clothes, shoes and other products in every shape and form and for every sport. Adidas' history dates back to 1949, when the brand was founded in Germany by two brothers, Adolf and Rudolf Dassler. Adidas is also the story of Puma and the bitter rivalry between the two German brothers. In the 1920s, Adolf and Rudolf Dassler started their own shoe brand in a laundry room, in the town of Herzogenaurach. The Dassler Brothers Sports Shoe Company quickly flourished, and succeeded thanks to Adolf's craftsmanship and Rudolf's sales skills. In 1936, they got legendary runner Jesse Owens to wear their shoes when he competed in the Berlin Olympics. Owens won a staggering four gold medals, giving the shoe great publicity, with sales of the shoe exploding. However, this resulted in Adolf and Rudolf falling out, and in 1947 they went their separate ways. Rudolf founded his own company "Ruda", which later became Puma, while Adolf created Adidas. For many decades Rudolf and Adolf fought to get the best football stars and Olympic athletes to wear their clothes and shoes. Today, the two designers are buried at opposite ends of the Herzogenaurac cemetery, but their two companies still run successfully.
